III.          The Chief Problems of the Traditional Approaches to Linguistic Inquiry in Experimental phonologists’ point of view.

(1)  Representative samplings are not standardized: The judgments may be biased by the observer.

(2) Theoretical claims are typically formulated within a relatively abstract domain: The relationship between the linguistic competence and performance is not well-defined.

(3) Linguistic theories typically use empirically undefined terms to construct assumptions: Their effects and interactions are often not considered.
